Advice for up and coming drummers:

Practice a lot. More importantly, play all the shows you can. That's what puts hair on your nuts. Listen to the music you love very carefully. Ask yourself what makes it so good. Never confuse complexity for quality. Do what feels right and before you refine your drumming, refine your tastes.
